Our business

The Port of Kalundborg is Zealand's only deep-water port and a natural growth center for all of West Zealand. With 1 million square meters of port area and more than 4 km of quay, we have room to think big – and flexibly.

The outer harbor has a water depth of up to 15 meters and is suitable for very large ships. In the inner harbor we have multi-berths with a depth of up to 12 meters and modern facilities for a wide range of operations.

We work in many different business areas – and we are always ready to explore new ones. Below you will find a selection of the activities that are already creating value at the port today.

Kalundborg Port has approximately 1 million square meters of commercial space and 4 km of quay, divided between the Inner Harbor and the Outer Harbor.

The outer harbor covers 330,000 m2 and a 500 m long deep-water quay with a water depth of 15 m; here, among other things, the container terminal is located as well as our two electrically powered mobile cranes with a capacity of up to 150 tons.

The inner harbor of approximately 800,000 m2 contains multifunctional quays with up to 12 m water depth and the ability to handle all types of cargo.

The port is located at the bottom of the naturally deep Kalundborg Fjord and has direct access to the T-route, the deep-water route connecting the Baltics with the rest of the world. There is access by modular truck to all areas of the port.

We have available space and the possibility of further expansion in the future - please contact us for further dialogue.

The Port of Kalundborg houses a modern container terminal in Yderhavnen (formerly called Ny Vesthavn) operated by APM Terminals Kalundborg – one of the world's leading operators in container traffic.

The terminal handles, among other things, all Maersk containers to and from Zealand and is served by feeder ships from Unifeeder, which connect Kalundborg with Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Aarhus - and further out into the world.

With a 500-meter-long quay, 15 meters of water depth and an area of 330,000 square meters, the terminal is geared for efficient operation and future growth.

The terminal is designed to handle ships of significant size and has direct access to the Zealand distribution network. This means that containers can be transported quickly and efficiently – to the rest of Denmark and out into the world.

We offer high-quality container handling with short operating times, and we work closely with both customers and operators to ensure a flexible and competitive solution.

Read about our various facilities at the container terminal here.

Would you like to know more about the possibilities for containerized goods? We are ready to find a solution that makes sense – both now and in the long term.

We cooperate with these operators for container handling:

The Port of Kalundborg is actively working with CO2 as a new type of product in connection with future carbon capture projects.

As one of the founding members of CCS Zealand, the Port of Kalundborg sits on the steering committee together with emitters and storage operators – as the only port in the collaboration. This means that we are close to the development of CO2 infrastructure in the region.

The projects are in an early stage, and therefore we can only provide ongoing updates on specific activities.

We see great potential in the short term for shipping liquid CO2 to offshore storage, but also for shipping to future onshore storage in the longer term.

The outer harbor already has the physical framework to handle this type of goods: deep water, remote location outside the city and good opportunities for expansion.

Should we take the next step together? We are ready to develop business within CCUS.

CO2 projects we are involved in:

Kalundborg Tank Terminal (KTT) has many years of experience in handling and storing liquid bulk – including oil products, chemicals and other liquids that require specialized handling and monitoring.

The terminal is a subsidiary of Kalundborg Port and is operated in a 50/50 joint venture with Schultz Shipping Group A/S. The terminal currently has 17 steel tanks located in a tank farm in Kalundborg Sydhavn with a total capacity of 38,000 m3 for the storage of liquid bulk.

There is direct access to the terminal from quay 10 and quay 11, from where ships can be efficiently loaded and unloaded. KTT handles handling, product monitoring and related services in close dialogue with customers. Close to the quays is Avista Green A/S, which has the capacity to re-refine 130,000 tons of waste oil into new, clean base oil from its refinery.

With flexible solutions and modern facilities, we support safe and efficient bulk logistics – tailored to your needs. We are always ready to discuss new opportunities.

Throughout history, Kalundborg has been the gateway to and from West Zealand – both for cargo ships, ferries and travelers.

Today, the port is still an important gateway to land and sea, where goods and passengers meet side by side. Although the Port of Kalundborg is primarily a modern commercial port, we also have space for passenger ships for permanent residents, commuters and tourists.

Kalundborg Port has traditionally been a large ferry port with sailings to Jutland and Samsø. In its heyday, 11 ferries sailed to Aarhus, Ballen and Juelsminde, among others. Today, there is only a single ferry connection from Kalundborg to Ballen on Samsø.

Ferry to Samsø

The Samsø Line has several daily departures between Kalundborg and Samsø, connecting the mainland and island life.

The ferry port is located in the western part of the harbor, right by Kalundborg St. with easy access for pedestrians, cyclists and cars. The crossing takes about an hour and brings you close to Samsø's special landscape and local atmosphere.

Booking of tickets etc. must be done on the Samsølinjen website.

The ferry service is operated by Molslinjen. Contact them if you have any questions about the crossing, etc.

The Port of Kalundborg has always been a place where people and opportunities meet: as a ferry hub, as a modern commercial port and as a cruise destination with space for both cargo and guests.

Kalundborg has developed into an attractive destination for travelers from all over the world when tourists visit Denmark via the Great Belt. Here, the international sea view meets the West Zealand idyll – and the harbor serves as a gateway to both nature, culture and local, authentic experiences.

The port has both the depth and facilities to welcome some of the world's largest cruise ships, and we collaborate with shipping companies, tourist agencies, Kalundborg Municipality and local stakeholders to create good experiences for visitors.

The cruise calls bring life to the port and the town – and for many of the tourists, Kalundborg is their first encounter with Danish culture, nature and hospitality. We welcome them with open arms and are ready to welcome them to the Kalundborg idyll.

We are travel-loving – are you?

For those of you who sail for pleasure, we offer winter storage space in the Dock Harbour. Here we have space for small and large pleasure boats, and we are happy to help you get your boat safely ashore in the autumn – or back into the water when spring arrives.

The Port of Kalundborg is among Denmark's largest ports for dry bulk and handles everything within bulk cargo - including agricultural products such as fertilizer, grain and feed, as well as construction and industrial materials such as salt, stone, gravel, biomass, wood pellets, etc.

The majority of the quays in the Inner Harbour are multi-quays, allowing us to handle bulk cargo in several locations. Our Sennebogen crane can be used throughout the Inner Harbour, while the port's two gantry cranes service quays 12 and 13 in the South Harbour.

Sydhavnen also houses Kalundborg Bulk Terminal – one of the country's largest with associated packaging facilities and both indoor and outdoor storage capacity.

In the Inner Harbor there is a water depth of up to 12 m and quay lengths of up to 450 m.

Dry bulk is also handled in the Outer Harbor, where the 500 m long deep-water quay and large cranes make it possible to unload and load larger batches and very large ship sizes.

The great water depth in the Port of Kalundborg also means that the port is often used for transit operations, where larger batches are transshipped to/from smaller coasters.

The Port of Kalundborg is therefore suitable for everything from import and export to transit handling of bulk goods.

The Port of Kalundborg offers reliable and efficient solutions for roll-on/roll-off cargo at several quays in both the Inner Harbor and the Outer Harbor.

Our ro/ro berths are suitable for handling trucks, trailers and other wheeled goods that need to be loaded or unloaded - quickly, safely and without unnecessary waiting.

With direct access to the Zealand road network and only an hour from Copenhagen, Kalundborg functions as a natural hub between sea and land transport.

There is good maneuvering space at our quays, and the ro/ro berths are positioned so that traffic flows efficiently and without bottlenecks - even at high capacity.

It is also possible to drive modular trucks to all areas and ro-ro berths of the Port of Kalundborg.

The Port of Kalundborg's ro/ro facilities have been extensively used over time for handling military equipment to and from exercises around the world.

We work closely with our customers and operators to adapt the solutions to the needs of each business.

Whether it's regular calls or ad hoc operations, we have the technical know-how and experience to make your operation run smoothly.

Should we take care of your ro-ro activities? We tailor solutions to suit your needs.

The Port of Kalundborg has solid facilities and extensive experience with project cargo, general cargo and heavy lift. The Inner Port handles, among other things, offshore project cargo such as coils of flexible pipes, but also several other types of project cargo on an ad hoc basis.

We have spacious quayside areas suitable for both temporary storage and erection of large components. This makes us well suited for handling industrial units, offshore elements and other types of project cargo that require extra space and planning.

In the Outer Harbour, the 500 m long deep-water quay (15 m depth) and our two Gottwald cranes also provide good opportunities for handling heavy components. The largest of the cranes can lift up to 150 tons at a 19 m reach, while the smaller one can handle up to 100 tons. This makes the harbour suitable for both complex offshore projects and other heavy loads.

We offer tailor-made planning and coordination and have experience with everything from military equipment to industrial and wind turbine components. Contact us for a solution for your specific project.
