Milestone for the Port of Kalundborg's cruise history

August 28, 2025 was a milestone for the Port of Kalundborg as a cruise destination. For the very first time, the port acted as a turnaround port when the cruise ship M/S Nordstjernen docked and around 40 Danish passengers were to board the ship in Kalundborg Østhavn.

Being a turnaround port means that the port is not only a port of call en route on a cruise route, but also functions as a departure port where new guests board. This places different and greater demands on planning and facilities – and the first test was carried out smoothly.

Although this time there was a relatively small number of passengers, the experience is valuable. The turnaround call has shown that the Port of Kalundborg is well equipped to welcome cruise passengers in a new way.

A close-to-town port in the East Harbour

M/S Nordstjernen docked in Østhavnen, which was at the ship's own request. The location close to the city center is an advantage for both transit passengers and guests who were to board the ship, which is close to both the train station and Kalundborg town's attractions.

It also protects the environment that there is no need for a shuttle bus between the port and the city, as cruise guests can walk directly to and from the city center.

With this first turnaround, a new door has opened, and the port looks forward to the opportunities it can bring in the coming years.
