Welcome

to the Port of Kalundborg's new website

Kalundborg Port is on the move – and that also applies to our digital presence. With our new website, we have given ourselves a boost that matches the reality and development we are facing. It is not just a new surface. It is a new way of thinking about communication, function and community. Come behind the scenes here and learn more about the thoughts behind the website.

We wanted a website that more closely reflects the port we are today – and the work we do every day on the quay, in dialogue with customers and in the development of our business.

A modern port deserves a modern platform where our customers, partners and curious citizens can find the information they are looking for – quickly and easily. And where they can also gain insight into who we are and what we stand for.

That's why we set out to rethink both form and content from scratch.

From idea to reality

The website project began as a desire to make it easier to be a customer and a partner – and ended up as a larger project, where we also cleaned up, rewrote and thought new things. We have worked hard with both structure, language and functionality, so that it all connects and makes sense.

The site is built around some simple but clear principles: It should be easy to use, easy to update and pleasant to look at – regardless of whether you visit us as a customer, partner, curious guest, employee or journalist.

The website needs to be more alive and constantly changing – just like the port is. Therefore, from the beginning, it has been an important factor for us that the website has the capacity and design to support video, animations and interactive elements, so that the site becomes a more vibrant, user-friendly and future-proof channel to the outside world.

We have therefore placed great emphasis on structure, clarity and visual coherence.

We have solved this task in close collaboration with our digital designer, Ida Gårdsdal. She has designed the new visual identity and created the UX/UI of the website – that is, optimized based on usability, so that the experience and interface are pleasant and make sense.

The result is a website where both appearance and content are connected – and which is a natural extension of the Port of Kalundborg's other identity.

The actual development and setup was carried out by the web agency Webto, which was responsible for the technical implementation, backend functions, photos and drone footage. They also developed the interactive map for an overview of the port. The wish list for features and content was long, and Webto turned our ideas and needs into a well-functioning digital solution.

The project has been driven internally by our sales and communications team, but has drawn on knowledge and experience from across the organization, so we have been able to create a website that reflects the entire business.

We are very proud to present our new website. Enjoy.

The process in brief

  • We have deleted, tightened up and written new words so that the language reflects the port we are today – and the one we want to be tomorrow.
  • We have chosen a solution that makes it easier for us to update the page - so you always get the latest information.
  • We have looked at data, listened to users and talked to employees to shape the right website.
  • We've put in many hours, liters of coffee and rounds of proofreading. Some days we dreamt about side menus. But it's been worth it.

Why a new website?

Because both the Port of Kalundborg's business and the outside world have developed, and there is a need for us to communicate in a new way. The old website has served us well, but it simply could not meet our or the users' needs anymore. We have new areas, new collaborations, new tasks and new users, and this places greater demands on how we communicate our business.

Therefore, the new website is not just an update in design and functionality. It is a communication strategy that will strengthen our role as an open and professional player in both the local and international port industry. At the same time, the website is an important tool in our work to position the Port of Kalundborg as a green, strategic and attractive hub for blue Denmark.

We wanted to gather all knowledge, service and communication in one place – in a language and format that appeals to professionals, citizens, customers and partners alike. The new site is not just intended to inform. It is also intended to inspire, engage and invite collaboration.

New features and improvements

We have added a number of new features and improved existing ones:

  • 🗺️ Interactive port map – get an overview of the entire port's areas, quays and facilities
  • 🗣️ Language selection – translation of all content into English so that international users can share our knowledge
  • 📅 Live call list – so you can see which ships are in port, on their way or have sailed
  • 📖 Historical timeline – a dive into the harbor and the city's 1,000-year history
  • 🔎 Better search function and navigation – so you can easily and quickly find the information you are looking for
  • 📱 Mobile-friendly design – so the website works whether you are on the dock or in the office

The website will be continuously updated and further developed, because Kalundborg Port never stops improving and developing – and the site will reflect that.
