Container goods
Efficient handling, shorter steaming time, and new growth opportunities
In Kalundborg you will find a container port with growth prospects – both for you and for the green transition.
With up to 15 meters of water depth, 500 meters of quay and 330,000 square meters of terminal area, our container terminal is geared to receive large ships and get the goods on the road quickly.
Our terminal is capable of handling complex operations and scaling with growth. From here, there is quick and easy access to the Zealand road network. Without city traffic, without bottlenecks and with lower CO2 emissions.
The terminal is operated by APM Terminals, one of the world's largest operators. It functions as connecting link for Maersk containers to and from Zealand – with direct connections to Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Aarhus via Unifeeder. This makes Kalundborg a efficient and competitive gateway to and from all over the world.
And we offer more than just good capacity and modern equipment:
Time savings and lower emissions: Kalundborg is located 214 nautical miles closer to the T-route than Copenhagen – this saves up to 12 hours of sailing and large amounts of fuel and CO2.
Minimal queues and congestion: In Kalundborg, you won't encounter crowded roads and terminals – we have the space and flow for quick turnaround.
Direct access to the distribution network: With a 75-minute drive to Copenhagen and a central location on Zealand, we are ideal for both import and export to Denmark.
- Efficient handling: With the highest CMPH (container lifts per hour) among all APM Terminals' global locations using mobile cranes and a terminal time of approximately 10 minutes, your cargo gets quickly from ship to road or from cargo owner to sea.

Why Kalundborg?
Save time & money
By choosing Kalundborg Container Terminal, you save both nautical miles, steaming time, and fuel.
Ships with a draft of more than 7.7 meters cannot pass through Drogden south of Copenhagen. Therefore, you have to go north of Zealand to enter the Baltic Sea.
This means that you will have to travel 214 nautical miles round trip, sail for up to 12 extra hours and emit unnecessary emissions along the way.
You can cut out all that if you choose Kalundborg's container terminal.
That's why you should choose Kalundborg.
Significantly lower carbon footprint
By choosing Kalundborg Container Terminal, you will have a significantly lower CO2 footprint per TEU when having containerised goods to Zealand.
With electrified cranes and a short terminal time in Kalundborg of approximately 10 minutes, you can get on quickly.
From here you drive directly onto the Danish roads – without heavy rush hour traffic, which can easily eat up an hour of your schedule.
Less idle time, less waiting time and a significantly lower CO2 footprint per TEU.
That's why you should choose Kalundborg.
Logistics with more than just goods
The Port of Kalundborg is more than a quay and cranes. We are part of an active business network where value creation happens in collaboration.
In close proximity to the container terminal in Kalundborg Port's Outer Harbor, we offer important complementary services for container operations.
Here you will find new, modern border control facilities for customs, food and veterinary control. There is storage space for animal and non-animal products, and we can store the goods at room temperature, refrigerated or frozen.
The Outer Harbor also houses the Kalundborg Logistics Center, which is operated by Schultz Shipping A/S. The logistics center offers a wide range of services to customers at the container terminal. Here you can have containers packed or emptied, storage space, handling of project goods and much more.

Zealand's container port of the future
It is not only the logistics that makes the Port of Kalundborg attractive.
In collaboration with APM Terminals, we have launched the Green Zealand Gateway project, which will develop one of the world's first CO2-neutral container terminals.
We are already well underway:
- Our large cranes now run on electricity, and the equipment will also be electrified.
- We have entered into an agreement with Norlys to establish charging infrastructure for heavy truck traffic that will continue into the country.
- The border control near the container terminal is powered by electricity produced from the port's own solar cells.
The project was honored with the Danish Ports Sustainability Award in 2024 – and we see it as the beginning of something even bigger.
Ready for CO2 – the new product type
CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) is becoming an important part of the green transition – and a new business opportunity for the shipping industry.
The Port of Kalundborg is on its way to becoming a central shipping point for CO2 with daily deliveries from industry to the port.
We are already working closely with relevant stakeholders in the development of CO2 infrastructure and see great potential in liquid CO2 and containers that can support this new climate product.
We are developing a business on CO2. Do you want to join?
