Soil creates great activity at the Port of Kalundborg

The many large buildings in Kalundborgislandrg produces significant amounts of soil that must be excavated and removed from the construction sites. For this purpose, up to 150,000 tons of soil are shipped from Kalundborg Harbour to Masnedø near Vordingborg.

It is actually a really good idea to sail the soil to Masnedø, because if you instead transported it on trucks, it would mean a total of approximately 5,000 extra trucks on the road to Vordingborg, and 5,000 extra back again.

Instead, the 150,000 tons of soil will be shipped from quay 5 in the East Harbor.

The first shipment of approximately 4,200 tons has been loaded aboard the ship Rix Munte today. After that, ships of the same size will sail non-stop for the next month or more until the entire volume has been moved. This is expected to be completed around October 6-7.

MJ Eriksson is responsible for land transport to the quay, while Baltic Shipping Company is responsible for loading and sailing.

At Masnedø there is a reclamation project with space for just over 1 million m3 of soil. MJ Eriksson, in collaboration with Norrecco, is responsible for the reception and incorporation of soil and other residual products.
