Port of Kalundborg inaugurates its office expansion

On Friday, June 13, the Port of Kalundborg reached another milestone when the port officially inaugurated its office expansion at Baltic Plads. The 340 square meter building marks not only a physical expansion, but also an important step towards a greener, more efficient and future-proof port.

Guests and partners turned up for the inauguration on Friday, June 13, where Port Director Bent Rasmussen and Chairman of the Board Jesper Wienmann Hansen welcomed them. The atmosphere was festive and marked by both pride and anticipation as the new facilities were presented for the first time. The last workers had left a few hours earlier, so the building had not yet been put into use when the doors were opened and the guests arrived.

Ready to form the framework for the port's next chapter

With the inauguration of the new extension, the Port of Kalundborg marks the beginning of a new chapter in its development. The two-story building, which now connects to the existing port office via a walkway on the first floor, is not just a physical expansion – it is a symbol of the port's transformation from a traditional ferry and cargo port to a modern and visionary commercial port.

The building houses modern offices, meeting rooms and welfare facilities – and a large, shared canteen. Here, relationships are to be strengthened and collaborations are to be created across departments, professions and functions. It is to be a place where daily socializing takes place and where the strong culture that characterizes Kalundborg Port can grow further.

21 years later, the port is still growing

The reception took place on the 21st anniversary of the inauguration of the existing office – almost to the day, June 11, 2004. At that time, the port was facing a new reality, because ferry traffic had largely ceased, Kalundborg had become a cruise destination, and the then new ISPS regulations were about to come into force. The new office was to be the foundation for growth, where the port's competencies were gathered under one roof.

“We actually think we have succeeded in terms of growth – in fact to such an extent that we have been lacking space for a long time,” said Port Director Bent Rasmussen during the inauguration. The new framework has now created better conditions for employees and a solid foundation for the further growth journey – both organizationally and in relation to the port’s role in the green transition and the logistics infrastructure of the future.

The need for expansion has arisen as the Port of Kalundborg has experienced significant growth over the years and is once again looking into a new reality with green transition, electrification and the loading and unloading of CO.2.

“The Port of Kalundborg is no longer just a terminal for goods and ships, but an integrated part of a visionary and sustainable industrial city,” said the port's chairman, Jesper Wienmann Hansen, in his speech.
