A building permit has been granted for the construction of a new office building in Kalundborg Port. The port office was designed by Læssøe-Simonsen A/S and will help reduce the port's climate footprint.
The Port of Kalundborg's board of directors has approved the forward-looking organizational plan, which has added - and will add - more administrative employees, and therefore it has also been necessary to look at increased office space in the port's administration building at Baltic Plads.
The Port of Kalundborg is therefore starting to expand with a new office building of 340 square meters, which will strengthen the port's facilities and contribute to the green transition. The expansion of the port office marks an important step in the port's development and ensures more sustainable operations.
"The expansion of the port administration is an important investment in our future. The extension will be a modern and sustainable building that supports our many activities at the port and helps to improve the working environment and strengthen the community at the workplace. At the same time, it provides the opportunity to hold several larger events "in house". Finally, the construction will initially provide some extra office space that can possibly be rented out for a few years to port-related start-up companies," says Port Director Bent Rasmussen.
The project includes a two-story extension of a total of 340 square meters, with each floor being 170 square meters, as well as a walkway connecting the new building to the existing office building on the first floor. The new building will include a large, shared canteen, several offices, a meeting room, and toilet and changing facilities.
As part of the green focus, a solar cell system will be installed on the roof of the extension and six charging stations will be set up for the port's vehicles, emphasizing the Port of Kalundborg's commitment to sustainable development.
"The board and the port's management have a goal of reducing the port's climate footprint, and we are therefore very proud to be able to take another step towards the green transition with the new office building. With a 10.7 kW solar cell system, we can cover our own electricity consumption, just as the charging stations are necessary for our movement in the port areas," says port board chairman Jesper Wienmann Hansen.
The turnkey contract was tendered in February 2024 with DLA Piper as client advisor, and after the end of the tender round, the Port of Kalundborg has awarded the engineering company Læssøe-Simonsen A/S the contract for the construction project. Læssøe-Simonsen A/S previously built the Customs and Veterinary Control in Ny Vesthavn and is now responsible for realizing the new office building, which is due to be ready in April 2025.
The expansion will be financed in cash from the port's liquid capital.
