Therefore Kalundborg Port
Kalundborg – a more environmentally friendly choice for Danish transport
The Port of Kalundborg is strategically located at the entrance to the Great Belt – with direct access to one of the world's busiest shipping routes. There are no bottlenecks here, and ships with large drafts can call at the port without any problems all year round.
With a water depth of up to 15 meters, Kalundborg is Zealand's only deep-water commercial port. This means that we can receive large cargo ships without time-consuming transhipment or restrictions. Combined with efficient terminal operations and short terminal times, we handle cargo quickly and flexibly - by land and by sea.
Kalundborg is located in the heart of Northwest Zealand with a view of the Kalundborgfjord, named after the town. The two peninsulas Asnæs and Røsnæs embrace the town with a natural and calm approach to the harbor at the bottom of the fjord.
The port is centrally located in Denmark and has direct connections to the motorway network and the rest of Zealand. From here, there is easy access to the entire region, and we offer good logistics and room for growth - without congestion or bottlenecks.
The port has modern facilities, solid quays and large areas ready for development. At the same time, we are an active part of a strong business network with a focus on green transition, collaboration and future-proof logistics.
Here there is room to think big – and to act quickly.
Should your company's maritime operations be located in Kalundborg? We have the right facilities for you and your company and can offer a wide range of complementary solutions.
A greener value chain – for you, for us & for the world
We offer a significantly lower carbon footprint per TEU – and this can be felt throughout the value chain. It's not just good for the climate, it's also good for your business.
With only 9 nautical miles from the T-route, you save up to 214 nautical miles and 12 hours of sailing compared to calling in Copenhagen. This means fewer emissions, lower fuel consumption and less pressure on the sailing schedule. You simply get more green value for every nautical mile.
From our terminal, your goods will reach the Zealand roads and the end user without any wasted time. We have no city traffic, no bottlenecks and no overcrowded terminals. Just easy access to the Danish distribution network – including a 75-minute drive to Copenhagen.
Currently, our efficiency record is 18.6 container lifts per hour, the average terminal time is approximately 10 minutes, and all areas of the port are approved for modular truck trains.
This makes the Port of Kalundborg an obvious choice for both imports and exports, which must be green, efficient and competitive.

The historic fjord town with an eye towards the future
Kalundborg has grown with the fjord as its constant companion. Already in the Viking Age, the naturally calm and deep harbor attracted people; a safe place to dock, keep watch and find shelter. Esbern Snare built his castle on the hill, and that was the starting point for the city, which over time received both a royal castle, royal meetings and market town rights. For several hundred years, Kalundborg was a powerful royal city with the kingdom's archives and treasury behind walls so thick that even the Swedes had to use gunpowder and knuckleduster to bring them down.
When the king moved on, trade and ferry traffic took over. Kalundborg became a hub for grain trade and passenger traffic, and when the town got a railway in 1874, industry really took off. Shipyards, sulfuric acid factories, the Bukh engine factory, Carmen Curlers and later Novo Nordisk and Novozymes have been driving the town's engine room for the past 150 years.
Today, Kalundborg is the center of green innovation and industrial symbiosis – where resources are shared across companies. And in the middle of it all lies the Port of Kalundborg, Zealand's only deep-water port and a key player in both international trade and Denmark's defense.
Kalundborg is still in motion. It is a place where people build, research, collaborate and live. A city with deep roots, strong communities and a view of a green and global future.
