In the new year, the Port of Kalundborg will begin construction of a 778 square meter building, which will be located close to the container terminal at Ny Vesthavn. The building will house workshop, repair and depot facilities as well as changing facilities, a canteen, etc. for employees of the Port of Kalundborg.
The Port of Kalundborg has already allocated its workshop and repair facilities at the existing port to Avista Green, as the facilities were gradually surrounded by the refinery.
"We have always had these facilities in the "old" part of Kalundborg Harbour, but gradually we have more and more activities at Ny Vesthavn, where our three large mobile harbour cranes are also stationed and operate from. Therefore, it seems natural that we gather our workshop and depot facilities at Ny Vesthavn in a completely new and modern building", says harbour director Bent Rasmussen.
"The building will also include welfare facilities, a canteen and shower and changing facilities for men and women, and I'm sure our employees will be happy to have brand new permanent facilities as a replacement for temporarily erected pavilions. So it will definitely be an improvement," adds Bent Rasmussen.
Furthermore, a new equipment yard will be placed north of the building for storing port equipment that can be left outdoors, and a washing area will also be established for the port's equipment.
The task of constructing the 778 square meter new building has been put out to tender, and the task has been awarded to Scan Construction ApS, an experienced construction company specializing in industrial and agricultural construction. Scan Construction is the turnkey contractor on the task, which means that they take care of all services and sub-tasks during the construction process.
Scan Construction has most recently constructed the beautiful building at Østhavnen for the company 3S, where the boat building was previously located.
The construction costs approx. 10.3 million DKK, which Kalundborg Port is financing from its own cash. Construction work will start just after the New Year, and the building is expected to be completed and ready for use around 1 June 2023.
