The two construction projects were marked with the first sod-turning ceremony on Monday, March 6, in bright sunshine. The first sod-turning ceremony was performed by (from left in the photo) Port Director Bent Rasmussen, contractor Jesper Simonsen from the engineering firm Jesper Simonsen, Managing Director Mikael Gutman, APM Terminals Nordics, and Port Board Chairman Jesper Wienmann Hansen.
Port Director Bent Rasmussen welcomed the guests and introduced the speakers.
Jesper Wienmann Hansen said at the event, among other things, that these are two extremely important buildings that are now being constructed at Ny Vesthavn very close to the container terminal.
"Veterinary control is an innovation. We do not have it at the moment, but it is actually necessary if the container terminal is to be able to accept certain types of goods, including food, and with this investment, the Port of Kalundborg will receive additional cargo volumes through the container terminal. But we must not forget that we have also started constructing a new building, which will contain facilities for our own people", he said, among other things.
Mikael Gutman from APM Terminals Nordics took the opportunity to thank the Port of Kalundborg for the good cooperation and added:
"I would like to say thank you for allowing us to be here today. It's not everyday for us to be part of creating something from scratch, so it's also an important milestone for us that we can now break ground today."
And with those words, the first sod was laid, although the excavators have started a little early and are actually already digging out to the foundation.
Port Director Bent Rasmussen concluded by offering light refreshments and promised that guests would be invited to the inauguration when the building is ready this summer.
