JD-Contractor builds terminal at Kalundborg Port

JD-Contractor, whose ships are permanently based in the Port of Kalundborg, has entered into an agreement to lease another area of approximately 3,800 m2 in the East Port next to a quay with a water depth of 10.0 m. The area will be used for the construction of a terminal at quay 5/6, where the previous container terminal was located.

The shipping company JD-Contractor has a fleet of highly specialized offshore vessels, which are permanently based in the East Port of Kalundborg when the ships are not out on their assignments. JD-Contractor already rents an area in the East Port, where they built a large terminal years ago, but now the shipping company is expanding its investments in the centrally located deepwater port.

"We are renting another area that we will use for the construction of a terminal building of almost 2,000 square meters. We will use the terminal for storing submarine cables and other equipment," says Rasmus Normann Andersen, CEO of JD-Contractor, and adds:

"We have had a very good collaboration with the Port of Kalundborg for as long as we have had a permanent base here. We are now expanding this collaboration with the construction of our new terminal."

There are already some terminal buildings at berths 5/6. The new terminal will be located just west of these buildings, and construction is expected to start as soon as possible after March 1, when JD-Contractor takes over the area.

The Port of Kalundborg is also pleased about the new agreement with a long-standing partner.

"We are of course pleased that JD-Contractor is investing further in our East Harbour. Here we have space for new activities after the container terminal moved to Ny Vesthavn. And we are only too happy that JD-Contractor can use – and we can offer – the available space for this new construction", says harbour director Bent Rasmussen.
