The Port of Kalundborg is proud to announce the inauguration of new state-of-the-art border control facilities, a comprehensive upgrade of the port's existing business base. This significant step forward positions the Port of Kalundborg as a full-service destination for global trade and strengthens the port's position in the container market.
The inauguration was attended by 120 invited guests and Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Jacob Jensen officially cut the ribbon early in the afternoon.
On October 27, Jacob Jensen, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, cut the ribbon for the new border control building at the Port of Kalundborg. The border control will upgrade the container business at the port. Around 120 invited guests attended the inauguration of the building, which houses border control facilities for both the Danish Customs and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
"I am really proud and happy to be able to inaugurate the facilities today. The building will play a key role when countries outside the EU want to import food, animal feed, ingredients for pharmaceutical production, etc. to Denmark. It is a really big deal, not just the 1000m2 that the new control will cover, but it gives the business community in Kalundborg some opportunities to expand into import markets. It also gives the Port opportunities to develop and become a central Port for all of Denmark, and it is therefore also a pleasure and an honor to be allowed to inaugurate the building today. The development of the port has been exciting to follow in recent years and will certainly be so in the future."
– Said Minister Jacob Jensen, who himself is from the Kalundborg region and was elected from there.
The event was marked with speeches from Kalundborg Mayor Martin Damm, Mikael Gutman CEO – APM Terminals Nordic, Lars Jensen – CEO Vespucci Maritime, Kent Midtgaard Hansen – Acting Director of Control at the Danish Customs Board, Peter Stenberg – Kalundborg Logistics Center/ Schultz Group and Thomas Anderskov – Director of Control at the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
"We are convinced that the veterinary and food control will be an important step towards larger and new cargo volumes for the container terminal at the Port of Kalundborg"
– Chairman of the Board Jesper Wienmann Hansen
Between the speeches, the guests were shown around the newly constructed building, after which they were offered refreshments and the day ended with a resounding performance by Soul and Gospel singer Marie Carmen Koppel.
The Port of Kalundborg is undergoing rapid development.
The new border control facilities enable the import of goods via the Port of Kalundborg that are subject to veterinary border control, thus opening the doors to a wider range of trade opportunities, as the facilities enable the Port of Kalundborg to handle all types of goods efficiently and with the highest standards of security and control.
In the wake of this upgrade is the Port of Kalundborg's strong commitment to green transition. As part of the port's development, the port has planned to fully electrify their cranes within the next year. This step away from fossil fuels will reduce CO2 emissions and underlines the Port of Kalundborg's commitment to sustainable operations.
This landmark moment represents not only an improved capacity for trade, but also a strong step towards a more sustainable future for the port and the surrounding community.
“The inauguration of our new border control facilities marks a crucial milestone for the Port of Kalundborg,” says Bent Rasmussen, Director of the Port of Kalundborg. “We are determined to meet the needs of our customers and provide them with access to global trade of the highest quality. At the same time, we are dedicated to making our operations more environmentally friendly and contributing to the green transition.”
