Warehouse and logistics terminals are being built at Ny Vesthavn

The Port of Kalundborg leases more than 27,000 m2 of area to Kalundborg Terminal, which is part of the long-standing partner Schultz Shipping Group.

Kalundborg Terminal has taken over the area as of June 1 and is now in the process of designing and other preparations for the construction of a logistics terminal including two high-end warehouses. The first terminal building will be just over 2,000 m2, and building no. 2 will be just over 1,800 m2. The rest of the large area will be paved.

The warehouse and logistics terminal will be used for all types of supporting activities needed in connection with a container port, such as intermediate storage for goods being shipped in/out, and handling of containers that need to be filled, emptied and stripped.

"It is an additional service for the container terminal's customers and users at Ny Vesthavn and thus a support for the comprehensive solution that is underway in Kalundborg based on the port expansion," says Gustav Jakobsen from Schultz Shipping Group.

He adds that in addition to the two warehouses, there will be areas outside where it will be possible to store project cargo, etc. The leased area will primarily be used for what is called general cargo and project cargo and to a lesser extent for bulk goods, which will continue to be primarily handled in Sydhavnen. However, due to the great water depth, it will be possible to complement bulk ships with up to 100,000 tons of cargo at Ny Vesthavn as the only obvious place in Denmark, which could be a great advantage depending on global trade patterns.

In addition to the area of 27,000 m2, Kalundborg Terminal has an option on an adjacent area of just over 15,400 m2. Work to prepare the area is already underway, and it is expected to be completed during 2023 or at the latest in 2024. The areas are located at the southwest end of Ny Vesthavn.

Kalundborg Port's Director Bent Rasmussen says in connection with the rental and the planned upcoming construction projects that it is an expected and pleasing continuation of the development of Kalundborg Port's container activities at Ny Vesthavn.

"There has already been a demand for both storage and packaging facilities in connection with the container activities in the first year. This initiative will certainly increase the volume of containers through the port to everyone's delight. In combination with the imminent establishment of the permanent customs and veterinary facilities, the container terminal will have all the prerequisites for further growth in the coming years," says Bent Rasmussen and adds:

"I warmly welcome the new players, whom we know well from almost 100 years of work at the port - now also at Ny Vesthavn."
