Ministers visit the Port of Kalundborg

On Monday morning, the Port of Kalundborg was visited by Minister of Transport Trine Bramsen and Minister of Immigration and Integration Kaare Dybvad Bek. They were given a tour of the port, and not least, they had a good chat about both green transition and the Port of Kalundborg's position as Zealand's deep-water port.

The two ministers and their accompanying officials met with Port Director Bent Rasmussen and Port Board Chairman Jesper Wienmann Hansen, as well as Mols-Linjen's operational manager Hans-Henrik Simonsen.

The guests were given a tour of the port in a minibus, where the port, in addition to showing off the large industrial companies, also showed them the new Vesthavn. As is well known, the Port of Kalundborg houses both a container terminal and a quay for, among other things, cruise ships.

During the presentation, the green transition was discussed, among other things. Bent Rasmussen spoke about the initiatives that the Port of Kalundborg would like to carry out as the port's contribution to the green transition. The Port of Kalundborg has thus applied for a grant from the Danish Transport Authority's infrastructure pool for three specific projects. These are shore power for ships that are in the East Port for a longer period of time, conversion of the two Gottwald cranes so that they can run on electricity instead of diesel, and extension of the quay at Ny Vesthavn.

Bent Rasmussen explained in this connection that the Port of Kalundborg has a unique position on Zealand because it gives the lowest total CO2 emissions if the Port of Kalundborg is used as an entry and exit port for the Zealand container market. The Port of Kalundborg's position as Zealand's deep-water port was of course also touched upon.

The last stop of the trip was the Mols Line ferry terminal, where Operations Manager Hans-Henrik Simonsen provided information about the ferry terminal and the introduction of a new electric ferry on the Kalundborg – Samsø route. The new electric ferry will be introduced on the route in January 2025. Hans-Henrik Simonsen also said that there has been an increase of 50% in the transfer of passenger cars, and that they would therefore like to have the staging area expanded.
