A total of 2,903 TEU (standard 20-foot containers) were unloaded and loaded at APM Terminals at Ny Vesthavn, which is a new record. Never before have we handled so many containers at once.
The Port of Kalundborg was called at Easter by three container ships, namely Vera Rambow and Mito, which are Unifeeder ships that call at Kalundborg at regular intervals, as well as the large Maersk Line ship Vayenga Maersk.
Fortunately, we had the opportunity to “borrow” additional crane operators from outside. 3 external crane operators were needed to supplement our own. Together with our own skilled 8 crane operators and a significant number of employees and management from APMT, they ensured an efficient operation at the container terminal.
The 2 Unifeeder ships delivered and picked up containers to/from the Zealand market, whereas the Maersk ship delivered containers that are temporarily placed in Kalundborg due to direct or indirect reasons related to the sanctions against Russia.
Even though the background to the storage is quite tragic, we still allow ourselves to be happy that we, together with APM Terminals, have gotten really busy at the container department in Ny Vesthavn.
Here, APM Terminals has temporarily been provided with an additional 150,000 square meters – in addition to the 50,000 square meters they already had – to store the many extra containers. So it is no problem to find space for the next shipment of containers.
The entire setup from Easter also shows that a significant number of containers can be handled per day at Ny Vesthavn. This knowledge and story we will collectively use in our marketing to get more shipping companies to use the terminal for containers in/out of Zealand in the future.
